Dear Mrs Eddy––

I returned at once to my home (not disappointed) but feeling that God overrules all things for the good of his children.

It is no doubt better for me to wait until my husband comes into an acceptance of this Divine Truth in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science-

He is a man who has never used tobacco in any form or, drinks – intoxicating.

He has had a bright religious experience. but has always had to struggle with adversity.

At the present time he earns only about enough to pay his board if he was hiring it. while I pay house-rent and clothes for self and daughter.

Yet there are many poorer whom I can help. The day I called on you I left a friend whom I have known intimately for 30 years –who was in great grief– husband sick, living in elegance yet not knowing how long before the mortgage would be foreclosed and they houseless–

Her husband doctored me gratuitously 15 years ago now I will repay what I can–

What more is required of me, than to deal justly– love mercy and walk humbly with God.Mic 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? I have no ambition to be known, but my greatest desire is to do good, and walk in the footsteps of my SaviorEditorial Note: Jesus Christ.

Another reason why my way has seemed hedged upHos 2:6 ¶Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths. , is because my daughter is not yet of age, and I might have overlooked her needs, yet too the thought comes continually God is Supreme He will care for her–

May you have a good representative class– teachable and faithful– I shall continue to study and seek to know the truth and walk in itIII John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

This has come to me over and over with great power– Iwill be unto thee a tower of strength – I put what money I had into millinery & fancy goods two years ago, so as to keep my daughter with me. Have had my share of trade but have not got any ahead. All industries in the place have, been prostrated by the Labor troubles – many families having left town.

But I shall struggle on hoping at some future day to become your student-

Mrs Stetson wrote me in the Spring that you would take me for 2,00,00Editorial Note: $200.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $6,483.02 in 2023. but I could not raise
