Abner W. Royal (1825-1901) was born in Liberty, Maine, and died in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He lived in Richmond, Maine, from before 1850 until the 1880s. Over his career he was a cabinet maker, house painter, grocer, and paper hanger. He married Mary D. Royal (b. Rodick) in Brunswick, Maine, in 1846. She died in 1878, and he married Mary O. Royal (b. Drake), in 1881 in Union, Maine. He was her third husband. Royal was the uncle of Augusta E. Stetson, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's and important in the establishment of Christian Science in New York. His wife, Mary O. Royal, studied and practiced Christian Science and wrote to Eddy several times in the 1880s.
