Thursday Evening.
Could you spare an hour for me to come and see you in reference to the address I have writtenEditorial Note: This was probably the address about Christian Science that Harris delivered on November 5, 1884, at the American Academy of Dental Science.?
Any evening except Tuesday – at 7 or 8 o’clock would be convenient for me, or at 5 P.M. if you prefer. I could not come Friday at 5 – I speak of the scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science to many of my patients from day today and give them the circulars about Science & HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. and am interesting them in the subject. I had quite a talk today with a homeopathic physician of the Truth and, Dr. Walker, who I am inclined to believe will yet study and practice Christian Science. He says he has already given the subject considerable thought and that he gives to his patients less of medicine and more of mind every day and with better results, and thinks less and less of the efficacy of drugs. I recommend him to go up and see you.
Dear Mrs. Eddy, I have heard you deliver many excellent discourses but that one last Sunday at Hawthorn Hall exceeded everything before. Do if you can spare the time preach next Sunday – the people of Boston are hungering and thirsting after Christian Science and Mental Healing.
Permit me to suggest that you would find it admirable to have whoever puts the notices in the Saturday papers announcing our Sunday Services, put one also in the Saturday morning JournalEditorial Note: Boston Journal and it goes in the evening JournalEditorial Note: Boston Journal for the same charge. Many of my acquaintances take the JournalEditorial Note: Boston Journal – it is a Blaine paper with a large circulation – the notice is usually inserted in the TranscriptEditorial Note: Boston Transcript and the HeraldEditorial Note: Boston Herald, ClevelandEditorial Note: Grover Cleveland papers, but not in the JournalEditorial Note: Boston Journal. Shall we not let both sides hear the glorious Truth? It was a JournalEditorial Note: Boston Journal reporter who reported about the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science in my address, and he told me that he feels considerate interest in this subject and is a believer in it. One of the night editors Mr. Bryant, I know very well.
I will close with the sentiment which I know you will say is very true –
“Our doubts are traitors, And make us lose the good we oft might win, By fearing to attempt”.Editorial Note: This quotation is from William Shakespeare’s play, Measure for Measure.
Last night I answered the letter I received from a gentleman in Morrison, Illinois, sometime ago, in reference to Metaphysics in Dentistry. Please reply on receipt of this and oblige
P.S. I received another letter from Mrs. Harris today in which she sends you much love – E N H.
