James G. Blaine (1830-1893) was born in West Brownsville, Pennsylvania,
and died in Washington, D.C. He was a Republican politician who served in the U.S. House
of Representatives (1863-1876) and the U.S. Senate (1876-1881). In 1884, he secured the
Republican presidential nomination but lost the election to the Democratic candidate,
Grover Cleveland.
