Dearly Beloved Teacher:

Your letterEditorial Note: See L02076 freighted with love and good wishes to my dear wife and I – also the desire you express for my presence in Boston to aid in gathering the rich harvests you have so patiently sown – sound in my ears – in the first place (what it is) a benediction; while the latter words of your letter, seem like the loving call of a mother to a wayward or hesitating child.

The New Year will soon be here – it is then I will write you in regard to my going to Boston.

I have just had an interview with Mrs. Spofford of Riggs houseEditorial Note: The Riggs House was a prominent hotel in Washington, D.C. at the time. It was operated by Caleb W. Spofford.. She seems very much interested in the subject of S:CEditorial Note: Christian Science. She has a better appreciation of you and I have explained things to her – I am to see her again and take copy of S & HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy..

Mrs. S – is one of the most influential of all the ladies in Washington; and to enlist her earnestly in the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science., would be most desirable.

I have seen Miss Grey. She thinks it would not be possible or rather thinks it improbable that a class could be obtained here for you. I think there can, by proper effort. I think “all things are possible to him who fully believeth”Mark 9:17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; Mark 9:18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. Mark 9:19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. Mark 9:20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. Mark 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. Mark 9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Mark 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. Mark 9:26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. Mark 9:27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. .

My wife and I write in wishing you, Dear Teacher, a New Year especially replete with every blessing

Ever Thine –
