Caleb W. Spofford (1823-1901) was born in Temple, New Hampshire, and died
in Washington, D.C. From 1877 until 1892, he was the proprietor of the Riggs House, a
hotel in Washington, D.C. on the corner of 15th and G Streets. He was introduced to
Christian Science by his second cousin, Daniel H. Spofford, a student of Mary Baker
Eddy's who studied with her in 1875. There is no record of Caleb W. Spofford studying
with Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
