Melinda H. Smith (c.1837-1907) was a lifelong resident of Washington,
D.C. She and her husband, Eldridge J. Smith (c.1822-1897), were both students of Mary
Baker Eddy's, studying with her in early 1882. Although she didn't take an official role
in the Christian Science movement as her husband did, she corresponded with Eddy about
her study and practice of Christian Science.
