My Beloved Teacher:

I am going to ChicagoEditorial Note: Chicago, Illinois and see Mrs Larnimie and Bell alone, this afternoon, and have them take the initiative steps to open the Institute leaving it for them to ask, Mr & Mrs Day Webster and Adams, also Bradford Sherman to join in the movement. These we know are loyal. I had best not appear very active in it, as it might excite the suspicion of some others, whom we would hold on to. I will report early the result of my visit.

And now a word in relation to my coming to B–Editorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts Will it be safe to leave this cityEditorial Note: Milwaukee, Wisconsin until we know that efforts of Swarts, Hopkins and Plunkett have ceased in this direction They have a tool here, working for them, trying to get up a class, but so far we have been able to thwart their prospects, but I am so suspicious of the carelessness of our students, that if we leave them alone, they will not watch. When they of my own household exercise indifference, what can you expect of outsiders.

However it is upon your direction I shall rely. Inasmuch as you are to direct, let me tell you my situation briefly, as it may be of use to you in shaping your directions. We are now teaching a class; and there has spoken to me a sufficient number to begin another at the close of this.

In our traveling As Written: travelling we incur considerable expense; the receipts from these classes enables us to meet these expenses. The question arises, shall we teach this second class before coming to BostonAs Written:B–

It looks as though I could not complete the other labors, such as this Chicago business, and Mrs Sargent'sEditorial Note: Laura E. Sargent or Victoria H. Sargent at St PaulEditorial Note: Saint Paul, Minnesota before the last of September There is this Students Association to be organized. Then I want to see Mrs Freeman. and some others at Ft HowardEditorial Note: Fort Howard, Wisconsin, for you, especially Mrs Freeman, in reference As Written: refference to what you mentioned.

Do not think I am mentioning these things as an excuse; to put off coming to BostonAs Written:B–, No! for however little confidence I have in my abilities to fill the place you assign me, I have more confidence in HimEditorial Note: God, by whose direction I believe you act.

I often exclaim, Oh if I can only attain that place in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science wherein I can discern all things spiritually, know His will; no sacrifice can be considered sufficientAs Written:sufficeint: neither wife, home, friends or estate shall stand in the way. I shall act upon the presumption of your confidence that whatever I do or say is in the interests of our causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science.; and I say to myself, it would be a pity to leave these who desire me to teach them, to, perhaps the hook of some mind-curer. I believe that by working a little harder, that I can attend to the other business, and teach this class also, thus saving it from the clutches of the enemy.

Again, I am in search of someoneAs Written:some one among these students, for the right one to send to you. It is so hard to find those who seek Truth for Truth's sake: I have the faith that God will select the right one here yet to take our place in this 'Institute." As you say, it may be the very means of helping A, if I am taken from her. She will lean so much upon me, a person; andIam constantly throwing her back upon herself. It is a continuous struggle for me, therefore I shall only be too glad to get away from it.

Faithfully Yours in Christ
S. J. Sawyer.
