I received your letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant., was pleased to hear from you. I think you did not understand my meaning. I will try and explain. I hope you did not think for a moment, that you would commit such a sin.
When I went to Mrs Poole, and she told me what I wrote you, I told her it was false, you would not do such a thing, and she could not make me believe any harm of you, and Dr Chase was a bad man to think of such a thing. I was very indignant, and have never been in Mrs. Poole’s rooms since, or never shall until she proves herself a true scientistEditorial Note: Christian Scientist.
I am sorry if you think I believed such of you. I do not think you have a student, that will stand by, or defend you more that I will. I believe you to be all you represent yourself, a pure Christian As Written: christian woman and I love you for what you are. I have always tried to live as near God as possible, if I reserved the rebuke I hope I shall profit by it, but when I defended you, and believed it impossible for you to do so, I thought you did not understand me by writing as you did. The reason I wrote about it, I thought it was such a wicked thing to say of you, and felt so badly to think anyoneAs Written:any one would accuse you of such a wrong, that was my only motive in writing, do not think that I believed it.
In my last letterEditorial Note: See 495.55.002 I do not think I told you how I talked to Mrs. Poole in regard to it. I did not suppose you would think I believed it, so did not think it necessary to explain. I shall have nothing more to do with Mrs. Poole. Please write and let me know what I have done wrong, that I may not do it again.
