My dear Student

Am in receipt of your check for $200Editorial Note: $200.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of 6,483.02 in 2023. for the Church fund It was good, kind, Christian and I with others extend you our grateful acknowledgments As Written: acknowledgements of the same

Now dear Student I feel that I am not quite understood on the matters of late adjusted in ChicagoEditorial Note: Chicago, Illinois You did at last as I at first advised very nearly but the name University was forced on us and when the students asked me to publish in the Journal a School system for Christian ScienceEditorial Note: See “The Educational System of Christian Science, Mind-healing” on pages 158-159 of the October 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal. I was obliged to state it right and in educational order This was by no means a reflection on what you did but grew out of the necessity of the hour I acceded As Written: acceeded to all you urged for the sake of getting you started but I could not in conscience say the final arrangement of nine members half of whom were not Normal students was "the authorized representative of my system of education" for it was not, and by so saying (when we were compelled to do anywayAs Written:any way to get started) I should have fettered myself from ever giving a public System of Education properly.

I have to look down the ages when I act and have done this up to now I feel that I must be greatly misjudged in this by some of my students if they coincide with Mrs Day's letters to me that are abusive.

She says "she does not care to have her husband go into competition with Mrs Eddy and Swarts &cc"– that I made him a cat's paw etcEditorial Note: See 060b.17.007. It was unladylike and destitute of the respect due to my toilsome As Written: toilsom efforts for all. I hope you will go on prosperously and no one seeks your interest more than

Your Loving Teacher
M B G Eddy

I know you have acted conscientiously As Written: conscintiously and always do so and I have not the least thought of anything else from you

Ever the same
