My dear Frances

I have thought so much of you todayAs Written:to day That I think you are already aware of it. Tomorrow is the funeral of the late Mr Allen I will tell you about it, all the particulars of his deathEditorial Note: Allen was severely scalded in an Eastern Railroad accident that killed many when the train was passing through Revere, Massachusetts. when we meet I was with him when Richard brought him home from ChelseaEditorial Note: Chelsea, Massachusetts or rather I was at his house The Doctors killed him with laudanum As Written: laudnum and whiskey he was doing well when I left him Sabbath morning Sat up in his chair a little [?] Unclear or illegible  then came his demand for opiates and M.D.sAs Written:M.D.'s and they finished him at 4 o'clockAs Written:o clock this morn about 12 hour from the time they came to him

Now Frances do be careful about taking the cars during the rush and tell Mrs R to be so I do not feel there is immediate danger and still there may be

I had a letter from the lady I visit in PortlandEditorial Note: Portland, Maine this morning, I felt a little bit tried but all is right She seems full just now, but says I can have a room anytimeAs Written:any time but never named anyoneAs Written:any one else coming with me. Yesterday morning Richard took a fit to go to Portland but he will go to a Hotel or perhaps to the Islands There is a resort in Casco bay called As Written: call the Islands. now I have thought that if you would like to go as things are that we could go to a Hotel perhaps, they ask $300Editorial Note: $3.00 in 1871 is the equivalent of $66.63 in 2021. per day and stop until Saturday, and then you and Richard could return together if you cared not to stop longer; please let me have your conclusion: you know I should enjoy your company as I ever do.

Now you must excuse this letter for I have done as I would be done byMatt 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Luke 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. in telling you just as it is and then leaving you to do as you please without any decisions on account of My feelings, i.e.As Written:ie., consult most this time your own pleasure, and please let me know your conclusions as soon as possible as Richard wants to go by Thursday for he has taken but one week to be away from his patients and this begins today love to dear Mrs. Richardson and write me on return Mail Yours
