Dec 8th 1884.
I have been waiting for a message for you ever since I came into the Understanding for I have finished my course of lessons taken of Mr B. Sherman, and so you see I am but a babe as yet for I feel indeed
I have been born againJohn 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: John 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a
teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God
be with him. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be
born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time
into his mother’s womb, and be born? John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and
of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is
spirit. John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not
tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
. Oh the Light! The Light! It is glorious,
it is good for me to be hereMatt 17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou
wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one
for Elias. Mark 9:5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let
us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Mark 9:6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. Luke 9:33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it
is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one
for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
for
the place where on I stand is indeed holyEx 3:1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led
the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. Ex 3:2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and,
behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. Ex 3:3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not
burnt. Ex 3:4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush,
and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. Ex 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place
whereon thou standest is holy ground. Josh 5:15 And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou
standest is holy. And Joshua did so. Acts 7:30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount
Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. Acts 7:31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, Acts 7:32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. Acts 7:33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou
standest is holy ground.
Now my dear teacher, for such you are, I want to ask for your instructions and help in this work. There are two questions of interest I wish to call your attention to this morning. The first is this, Christian Scientists must have their church established in Chicago The time has come when someone As Written: some one should speak to the people. Who shall do it? Mrs Eddy I believe As Written: beleive I could go into Hershey Hall (where you stood last spring) and speak of this great love of God and have no fear although I never spoke in public in my life and have only a slight education. I tell you I do not fear the face of manJer 1:8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. for if God be with us who can be against usRom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? . This was brought more forcibly to my mind today by hearing of a poor woman who is living in great discord in her family she heard of this truth and how if rightly understood it could bring her peace and she cried out “Oh where shall I go to learn this religionEditorial Note: Christian Science for I want to know it?” She was told go to Mr Sherman and pay so much money and he will teach you. “What!” said she “Pay for learning religion I thought it was free to all!” Now what answer have we Metaphysicians for that poor unlearned woman for she is not only poor in this worlds goods but she knows not the way of life.
What shall we do? I tell you my dear Sister something must be done, Chicago is full of harvest work and who shall gather in the wheat and pull up the taresMatt 13:24 ¶Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: Matt 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. Matt 13:26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. Matt 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? Matt 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? Matt 13:29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Matt 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. I am willing to do all I can and will not shrink from anything As Written: any thing , but I am a wife and mother and as such my duty is first at home but if I see anyway that God calls me to work I will answer “Here am I Lord do with me as seemeth good to thee.”II Sam 15:26 But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.
The other question is this why cannot Metaphysicians have a President of the United States in the coming term? This thought was given me this morning by meeting a man who brought up the election and seemed to think he was sure the wrong man was elected The thought came to me why should not Metaphysicians all over the country treat Gov. ClevelandEditorial Note: Grover Cleveland so that he might have an understanding no other president ever had. You know where there lies a power that shall rule in the righteousnessIsa 32:1 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. , why not call on all MetaphysiciansAs Written:Metaphys. to help raise our country from its error by doing for our ruler what no minister of the past has been able to do. Ever since I can remember at Church I have heard the preacher call upon God to give into our rulers wisdom and why did he not hear them? Because they did not know how to ask arightJames 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. , I care not how learned they were or how sincere they believed As Written: beleived themselves to be. But now all things shall be changedI Cor 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, and all things shall become newRev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. and Peace and Righteousness shall come into our midst and Discord shall be overthrown.
Now my dear teacher I bid you good bye. May God bless you and hold up your handsEx 17:11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. Ex 17:12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. and at last bring you into perfect Understanding with Himself.
