Pardon me for intruding upon your time, for the purpose of ascertaining some facts regarding proper methods of advancing in the knowledge of this wonderful method of healingEditorial Note: Christian Science of which you are the discoverer –

I have studied the method under Mrs. Selfridge of Chicago, a pupil of the ShermansEditorial Note: Bradford Sherman; Martha E. Sherman; Roger Sherman, one of whom graduated from your school at BostonEditorial Note: All three Shermans had studied with Mary Baker Eddy at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College in Boston by this time.. The results, practically, are to me amazing, as they developAs Written: develope , day after day. One lady, brought here to die, not only finds relief from disease of many years standing, but gains during four weeks 16 ½ lbs in weight, gaining at one time 7 lbs in eight days!

Chronic cases yield to repeated treatments, acute attacks are checked at once – A case of obstetrics, in which the treatments were given only as an anestheticAs Written: anaesthetic , resulted in delivery without pain, although the case was one of very hard labor. The patient, the wife of our pastor said afterward, “There was no pain: and as for the labor I really enjoyed it!”

The preliminary pains which occurred before my arrival, she describes as very severe. “What! no pain when the child was born?” I said. “No!”

We have a school of seven now in Petoskey, and, others are learning. We are a very enthusiastic company. Among them is our pastor, who is practicing with remarkable success.

Having finished your “Science and Health”Editorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy the question is “What shall we study? I am told you have a regularly organized society at Boston.

How can we form a branch organization here? Can you give us any hints in regard to constitution, by laws, and modes of operation? Knowing your desire to advance this glorious causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science., and being desirous to do all possible to spread the knowledge of this gospel of healingEditorial Note: Christian Science, I venture to ask these questions. A reply to the above, or any advice that may be given will be very thankfully received by

Yours most Respectfully
Mrs. Ralph Connable

P.S. Mrs. G. W. Hill, my cousin, who is now receiving treatment at Boston from Miss Moarn, writes me today that she is suffering greatly from the process of chemicalizationEditorial Note: “Chemicalization” is term Mary Baker Eddy used to refer to a temporary stirring up of symptoms or process of “fermentation” as errors of various types are being destroyed. – I have written to her to lay aside all fear in the matter, as I believe I understand the reason of it all, and she will soon realize a perfect cure.

Is there any method by which this scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science can be kept in the hands of those, only, who will use it conscientiously, in the removal of disease and the advancement in spirituality? It seems a pity that so sacred a thing should ever become the property of the idle, the curious or the unprincipled –

Yours &c M. R. C.
