Lois F. Selfridge (1834-1924) was born in Tecumseh, Michigan, and died in
London, England. She was the mother of Harry Gordon Selfridge (1858-1947), the founder
of the London-based upscale department store, Selfridges. For many years, she worked as
a teacher in the public schools of Jackson, Michigan. Although there is no record of her
studying with Mary Baker Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist), letters
indicate that she was sharing Christian Science and teaching it to others.
