My dear Teacher

I don't know where to begin I have so much to say and you so little time to listen= it is two months since I came here and the interest As Written: intrest in the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science is growing daily– there are two seasoned- workers beside myselfAs Written:my self= next week I expect to commence As Written: comence to teach a class and then I wish to organize an association- Can I take out a charter before Oct?

Mrs Eddy do you a teacher's As Written: teachers certificate to your Normal students? I wish your advice in regard to a patient who was cured of a belief of deafness and other troubles but said he could not give up chewing tobacco As Written: tobaco for he had used it 50 years- occasionally As Written: occessaionly as I thought of him I treated there was no pleasure in chewing et ceteraAs Written:&c and one day when in his garden he was taken dreadfully As Written: dredfully sick and both he and his wife thought he was dying As Written: dieing and after he was better turned to his wife and said Mother I believe that woman has been [?] Unclear or illegible  — with my tobacco As Written: tobaco - and for several days he was sick every time he put it in his mouth he kept trying until he now uses it- is it wise to treat him? you understand he has not had treatment since he was cured of his beliefs when I first came here only as I meet him occasionally As Written: occessionally I give him a thought.- I have at present quite a number of cases of what are called obstinate beliefs one a Mr Davis who has a belief of paralysis of the optic nerves and has consulted As Written: conculdted all the celebrated occulists in the country As Written: cuntry and all pronounced As Written: pronnunced it a hopeless case. Now comes the part I rather not write of As Written: off A student of Mr B. Sherman attempted to teach a Mrs Lewis the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science and although As Written: altho he was here a year before I came very few people ever heard As Written: hard her speak of Mental Healing and she took care of two people who have passed the belief of death since I came here - and gave them medicineAs Written:medacin - Now she and a good Baptist sister have begun to teach as they call it for $10.00Editorial Note: $10.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $311.34 in 2022. I hear – they told me they did not use the second VolEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy appeared in two volumes from the third through the fifteenth editions. as they did not accept the theology and a Mr Weaver who has been studying with them although As Written: altho he will not own it to me told me he thought he could study out the healing and teach it as he had by inquiring found that Mr. Shermans Students did teach before they came to you– I have said everything As Written: every thing to have him come to you for he claims to be a christian and wants to do a good work As Written: worke - think he will write to you.
