P00464 Sarah J. Clark (1839-1916) was born in Griggsville, Illinois, and died in
Toledo, Ohio. She became interested in Christian Science in late 1884 and was healed
after hearing Mary Baker Eddy preach at the Hawthorne Rooms in Hawthorne Hall in Boston,
Massachusetts. She later studied with Eddy, completing the Primary (1885), Normal
(1885), and Obstetrical (1887) classes. She joined the Christian Scientist Association
in October 1885. In early 1886, Clark went to Jamestown, New York, where she began
teaching Christian Science. She moved to Toledo in 1887, where she maintained a teaching
and healing practice and helped to organize a branch church in Toledo in 1890. In
November 1890, she was appointed editor of
The Christian Science
Journal and served until her resignation in November 1891. On October 5, 1892,
she joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, and was a member until her
passing. From about May 1907 until May 1908, she was a member of Eddy's household at
Pleasant View and then at Chestnut Hill.
