Accession: 593B.61.011
Editorial Title: Joseph Morton to Mary Baker Eddy, June 21, 1882
Author: Joseph Morton
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: June 21, 1882
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Joseph Morton on lined paper from Boston, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Morton tells Mary Baker Eddy that he has encountered a "dark mind" who said she received little benefit from Eddy's teachings. That does not surprise him because so many are mesmerized by their self-conceit. Morton, however, expresses great gratitude for all that Eddy's teachings have done for him and that true Christian Scientists must be willing to fight and die for this "pearl of great price." Morton loves Eddy, her son, George W. Glover, and her recently deceased husband, Asa Gilbert Eddy. He encloses $25.00 ($630.74 in 2016) as partial payment of dues (possibly for the Christian Scientist Association).
