Accession: 581.60.010
Editorial Title: Lizzie B. Twombly to Mary Baker Eddy, November 24, 1882
Author: Lizzie B. Twombly
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: November 24, 1882
Manuscript Description: Handritten by Lizzie B. Twombly on stationery printed with a kitten in the upper left hand portion and sent from Somerville, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Twombly writes to Mary Baker Eddy that she doesn't understand how she could have so mistaken what Eddy said to her. She believes that Eddy told her that Twombly and her friend could study with Eddy for one third of Eddy's usual fee of $300.00 ($7,568.87 in 2016). She doesn't see how she could find four students to bring to Eddy as it would be very difficult to find four persons interested enough to pay Eddy's fee. She does not see how she and her friend could pay over $50.00 ($1,261.48 in 2016). They have been saving their money, intending to study with Clara E. Choate. They thought of borrowing the money but gave up that thought as they felt it would worry and trouble them too much. Twombly feels she must gain the understanding of Christian Science, of which, up to now, she feels she has only gotten a taste. She would like to know when Eddy's next class will commence. (Twombly was in Eddy's class that began on January 22, 1883.)
