I address you at this time to see if I can possibly make any arrangements with you so I can study Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. in some one of the classes in the early fall after the vacation

I have been urged by people, who have studied the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science to write you on this subject, because as they have said to me they knew Mrs. E– would not want to lose a good honest student if it was in her power to help them. Mrs Robinson (who has studied with you) of Littleton New HampshireAs Written:N. H. said she would be my reference in this case and she was very anxious to have me write and tell you my circumstances so you can refer to her about my case if you wish.

One year ago last Feb. I was induced to try Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. and was treated six weeks by A. D. Simpson C.S. 59 Chambers St BostonEditorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts and I gained quite fast but did not feel that I could afford more treatment at that time, she kindly helped me to the books "Science & Health"Editorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. and I have studied them two or three hours daily ever since and tried to demonstrate and have also taken the Journal the past year and I feel that I could not get along without it. Mrs. Simpson once wrote to you in my behalfEditorial Note: See 946.92.002. but you may not remember. I have not been able to earn anythingAs Written:any thing for three years and before I was taken with my belief, had served in dressmaker's shop My husband having died and having left no property I was obliged to do so; now the truth of the case is this. I am very very anxious to study with you so I may be able to heal others (I have done somethingAs Written:some thing in that way by studying the blessed truth contained in you books. I have healed my Father of headaches and the effects of a kick by a horse, also my Mother, who was very suddenly take insane one morning and who was in a very bad state. I have also helped my sister-in-law As Written: sisterinlaw who had a belief of miscarriage and her little daughter who had a very sore mouth), yet do not think for a moment that I feel that I did it but was only an instrument in the hands of the loving FatherEditorial Note: God. I do not feel that I could pay $300Editorial Note: $300.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $9,340.08 in 2022. or even $200Editorial Note: $200.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $6,226.72 in 2022. to take the course, beside the other expenses, but I did not know but there might be somethingAs Written:some thing I could do about the college, either during or after having studied to help pay the tuition. Mrs. Simpson thought sometimes students stayed As Written: staid at the college and taught after they had finished their course. Whatever money I have to use I shall be obliged to hire and ask my Father or somethingAs Written:some thing to sign with me but if I was sure of being able to pay it back without binding a burden on anyoneAs Written:any one else I should not mind. I had a chance to study with Mrs. Hale, (one of your students) who was in Montpelier, this stateEditorial Note: Vermont, but I was advised by a ScientistEditorial Note: Christian Scientist not to do so as she was more material in her conversation than many others to whom she could recommend As Written: reccommend me. I have always been anxious to be able to heal the sick, but was never able to study before but feel that I am glad that I never learned any other way because there would be more to unlearn now than there is already.

Now do you think you can do anythingAs Written:any thing more to help me along than you make clear in the terms offered in the Journal. Please let me hear from you on this subject as soon as convenient and I shall await your answer anxiously Have you any card size photographs, of yourself, taken recently if so I would like one of them and will pay you for it.?

Please address me at Morrisville VermontAs Written:Vt. as I am only in this placeEditorial Note: East Cabot in Cabot, Vermont on a brief visit

Yours with a grateful heart for what I have learned through your books and example
