Most respected, and dearly beloved Teacher

The manager of the “Journal Mind in Nature”Editorial Note: This was a periodical being published at the time. Its full title was Mind in Nature: A Popular Journal of Psychical, Medical, and Scientific Information., the prospectus of which I enclose to you, called this p.m, and asked me to prepare for publication in the first view of the “Journal” a “statement as to the claims of, & what metaphysics really is”, saying that “a statement coming from me would carry more weight on account of my personal acquaintance with many of the contributors named in the list.”

Now while no prophetic vision is required to see the new approach of the conflict between “Principle”, and “Mortal beliefs”, as held by these eminent men, indeed I feel that the “Kingdom of God is at hand”Mark 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, Mark 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. , and while, (thanks to the power that faced me a few weeks ago to teach the alphabet of Christian Science to a very intelligent class, although receiving pay from only one), I feel able to meet “Error” in whatever shape it may be presented, yet I would like to have you give me some points, as no other person on earth is as well qualified As Written: quallified to do.

Now while I shall shirk no responsibility, it occurs to me, that you may, among the many of your Students here, who regard themselves far in advance of myself in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, select one better qualified for this responsible place.

Please let me hear from you very soon, as, unless I can prepare As Written: prepair a Statement which shall be in all respects correct, I shall withhold my contribution till the April issue.

Faithfully thine for “Principle”
S. J. Avery

P.S. I have arranged to come to you about the first week in March next, and trust I shall not be disappointed. Have I offended any of the dear Students in Chicago by teaching a class? I sometimes fear that I have judging from this actions toward me since.
