Dear Mrs. Eddy,

I was very much surprised and delighted to hear from you, and when I had read your letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. I felt as though one word of encouragement and advice from you were worth more to me, and gave me more pleasure than all the praise I might receive from others, for what you say comes more directly from the Truth than what anyone else could say, seems to me, because personality is a myth with you. Shortly after I received your letter I was forced as it were, by certain circumstances in the family, to realize, (in part at least), that a person, governed by mesmerism, was a myth. It seems as though I realize more & more from day to day, the cardinal points in Metaphysics, i.e. That we are spiritual and perfect. That there is no personality, That we are not formulated, That there is no Life, Substance or Intelligence in matter, That there is no Intelligence in evil, &c. also that we are not governed by fear. I notice, as I advance in the understanding of these broad platforms that it requires less argument, less time, less detail, with much quicker results and better success. I have attended all the meetings of the C. S. A.Editorial Note: This is a reference, not to the Christian Scientist Association of Mary Baker Eddy’s students, but to an association of her students and other Christian Scientists in the greater Chicago area. and have derived great benefit and pleasure from them. It has been the greatest pleasure of the AssociationEditorial Note: This is a reference to an association started in Chicago and composed of Eddy's students and other Christian Scientists living in the greater Chicago area. to listen to the words of advice and comfort sent by you from time to time through the different members. Dr. Avery, Mr. Morrill, and at the last meeting, Miss Brown. I know the Association will follow your advice in every instance. There will be a student'sAs Written:students meeting next Sunday, as you advisedAs Written:advized and Dr. Avery will give some parlor talks, which I know will be very enjoyable.

My mother was admitted to the AssociationEditorial Note: This is a reference to an association started in Chicago and composed of Eddy's students and other Christian Scientists living in the greater Chicago area., after word came from you to admit students of your students. She understands the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science very well and has done some good work, on herself and others, & is advancing all the time. My Aunt Nellie also is a very good metaphysician. She did not give but very few treatments all last summer, but she has heard the subject discussed in the family ever since I studied, and it has been growing in her thought, unconsciously to herself, without any active demonstrations, till about a month ago; when she found almost by accident that she could demonstrate it as well as anyone, & since then she has been giving treatments every day.

Miss Brown told us what you said about preferring to have your students teach, rather than have people learning of, Mr. Swarts and Mr. Osgood’s students. Those who know the least about metaphysics in Chicago advertise the most extensively and have the greatest number of students. But depend upon it I will not

I have not told much, if anything to the metaphysicians, of what I have done in the Truth. I know of course that the work is done, by realizing that we are spiritual & perfect, & that there is nothing to be done, and that there is no matter. I know that this is not a power to be handled or used by any human intelligence at the discretion of the individual but that it is a divine self-acting Principle that heals unconsciously to the person, and cannot be restrained, or guided by will power or any human agency as some seem to think. And as we advance in this scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science we cannot find pleasure in material things for we will find that we haven’t the free-will power to do or have pleasure in evil, as the churches believe and preach.

Thanking you ever so much for your letter, I remain your loving student
Belle Beecher.
