Oct 23. 1886
I wish to ask again your advice with regard to teaching though I am sure you were quite explicit in your remarks to the class upon that subject-
I understood you to say to me that I should not attempt to teach clergymen or those who would be desirous of propounding the most subtle As Written: subtile questions but simpler folk I might dare to take as pupils charging $50.00Editorial Note: $50.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $1,620.76 in 2023. for a course of lessons
There are those who from friendly partiality for me will gladly embrace the opportunity of taking a course with me at that price but the question has risen in my own mind whether I will be doing any wrong in any way to either the students themselves As Written: themselvs or to other teachers who have passed through the Normal class, and who have the right to charge a higher price
Of course if Miss. Browns' or Mrs. Larminies' pupils were entitled to any greater privileges under your tuition I would withdraw from this work at once and in their favor but unless their pupils rank higher in some way affecting their future interests as practitioners I see no objection to doing this work which seems waiting for me- for I do feel prepared to do a work in the cause of true Christian Science which I feel will be the means of saving some from falling into the hands of the enemy–
You signified your willingness to receive me into the Normal class which has recently received your tuition but I could not then meet the demands upon my exchequer neither did I wish to ask for any reduction
I intend to work on quietly in my home in every way that seems right for me to do to advance the good work and right understanding of Christian Science and will hope at no very distant day to present my application for admission to your higher classes
Shall I receive As Written: recive a certificate of degree for the primary course, or does the simple receipt for the fee Constitute my present guaranty of scholarship–?
A word from you on these questions would be most gratefully welcomed by
