Accession: 237AP1.38.025
Editorial Title: Silas J. Sawyer to Mary Baker Eddy, March 6, 1884
Author: Silas J. Sawyer
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: March 6, 1884
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Silas J. Sawyer on his stamped, lined stationery from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Editorial Note: Sawyer tells Mary Baker Eddy that he has just returned from Chicago and found that his wife, Jennie E. Sawyer, has written Eddy a letter (see 237B.38.042). He tells Eddy that they will "work" on Lovina Millidge in hopes of getting her to study Christian Science with Eddy. Sawyer's interest in Christian Science increases, though he cannot demonstrate it as effectively as he wishes to. He gives Eddy an update on his activities in distributing her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. He goes on to mention other students of Christian Science in the area, such as Julia Brady, Fannie M. Silsbee, Mary D. Fuller, and Mattie Williams, Jennie Harvey and George and Charlotte Klepser. He also asks Eddy if she remembers receiving a letter from A. R. Atkins, whom Eddy referred to Sawyer. Sawyer has now met Atkins and feels he will become a strong supporter of Christian Science, even though he has not yet been healed of his illnesses.
