EdinburghEditorial Note: Edinburgh, Scotland.
It is some time since I sent you any report of the work here– I am glad to say that things are going on well.
Your dear letter, with its message of encouragement, is a great help to us; we know we have only to be faithful ourselves, and God will give the increaseI Cor 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. -
We certainly do have more confidence in Good than ever before, and we are learning more to rise above the claims of error, & so to see their powerlessness- Our annual meeting was held on the 13th & there have been some changes made on our Board of Directors. We know that this is a sign of progress, for it clearly points to activity, & to the sifting of the tares & wheatMatt 13:24 ¶Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: Matt 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. Matt 13:26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. Matt 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? Matt 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? Matt 13:29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Matt 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. . Since this church was organized three years ago, there have been changes on the Board every year, & each time it has meant an improved condition. Now we hope & believe that we really have a working Board.
The opening of Reading Rooms at Caldercruix, a small place about 30 miles from here, where Mr. Tennant is at work; and the starting of public services at Dunfermline, are the most interesting events that have occurred near here of late.
We have been engaged for some time in the revision of our BylawsAs Written:Bye-laws, & I herewith send you a copy - We feel this also to be a sign of progress —
