I have just learned (in a roundabout way) that a lady who applied to me for instructions in C, S,Expanded:Christian Science some time ago, had previously applied, or rather written to you, Her name is Maynard, and as she was a perfect stranger to me, and as I was not especially pleased with her, I had no talk with her upon the subject scarcely, but took her address and said I would let her know when I would have a class, After she left I was sorry I told her so, for some howCorrected:somehow, I felt as if I could not take her for a student, and wondered how I could get out of it, Now I hear she is going to you, and I am more than glad if she is the right kind of a person, but some howCorrected:somehow I feel as if she was not, I am tolnd she is a wealthy woman, and perhaps what prejudiced me against her was this; she said when she called that, she had intended going East to study with Mrs. Stewart and said further, Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Eddy studied in the same class. I said, you are misinformed, Mrs. Eddy is the discoverer, and I gave her one of the Historical Sketches to read, which would tell her more than I could in a few minutes, Well, I write all this as it may have some connection with the note you sent meEditorial Note: This note is not extant., and which I returned, thinking it must have been a mistake. I am going right on in my demonstrations, healing in the face of the fiercest opposition, and even the M. D's are acknowledging cures of their old patients and advising others to come, so you see I am doing all I can to vindicate C.
