Our service yesterday was well attended. The Hall was full – some strangers. Bro Sawyer from MilwaukieEditorial Note: Milwaukee, Wisconsin Lectured for us in place of a the regular sermon. His subject was "Mesmerism and the duty of ScientistsEditorial Note: Christian Scientists with respect to it.." We profited by his remarks which were apropos As Written: appropos and pointed.
In the course of Conversation with Dr Sawyer I found out that he had no other facilities in procuring College charters, than such as were at hand for anyoneAs Written:any one, viz. the employment of a lawyer to attend to all the details. His Lawyer was out West on business and not speedily expected back.
I shall in accordance with your request proceed at once to obtain the best incorporation I can, and will name the Fledgling "The Chicago College of Christian Science." Now that I am back in the city I can give the matter close attention and hope very speedily to report to you rapid progress. There are many heads of families in Chicago who would study or take the Course of Eleven Lectures without intent to practice for which we might charge only $50Editorial Note: $50.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $1,620.76 in 2023.. the course yet charge $100Editorial Note: $100.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $3,241.51 in 2023. for the 12 Lectures to students who intend to practice. To the former we might give a Certificate to the latter a Diploma. How does it strike you? The Rival Metaphysical colleges are charging only $50 and will take students for nothing rather than not have them at all.
Mrs Day is at Home in Oak ParkEditorial Note: Oak Park, Illinois and is waiting for a practice which does not come as rapidly as she could wish. If we could only feel financially able I think we ought both to attend your next Normal Course. [*]Archival Note: A metamark that looks like an X appears at this point in the manuscript. Will see. With sentiments of profound respect
