In June 1889, Mary Baker Eddy moved her household from 385 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, to 62 North State Street in Concord, New Hampshire. Eddy rented the furnished Greek Revival house, built circa 1850, for herself and her small staff. While living there she revised her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, until the landmark fiftieth edition was ready for publication in 1891. Later that year, Eddy published another book, Retrospection and Introspection. In 1892, she moved from 62 North State Street to 188 Pleasant Street; a farmhouse she purchased that would also be known as Pleasant View. Since 1982, the North State Street house has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and in 1985, it was given to Longyear Museum, which now provides tours for the public. The exterior of the house underwent a major restoration in 2007-2008.
