Hervey H. Willsie (1855-1914) was born in Burr Oak, Iowa, and died in Tarkio, Missouri. In 1870 he moved with his family to a farm in Atchison County, Missouri, and married M. Virginia Willsie (b. Wisherd) in Tarkio in 1884. They lived and worked on the farm until 1899, when they moved to Tarkio. In addition to farming, Willsie was a large dealer in horses and mules. He was also active in local politics, representing Atchison County in the Missouri state legislature in the early 1900s and serving as a county court judge. Willsie was the brother of Lucinda Willsie, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's who was active in establishing Christian Science in Chicago, Illinois. Willsie's wife studied Christian Science with Lucinda Willsie and was a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
