George E. Whipple (1835-1901) was born in Fort Edward, New York, and died
in Chicago, Illinois. Whipple was a trained carpenter who began to operate a "mental
healing" practice in Jersey City, New Jersey, in about 1885. He later moved to New York,
New York, and then Chicago, where he continued his practice until his passing. Although
he expressed an interest in Christian Science, there is no record of him studying with
Mary Baker Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ (Scientist).
