Frederick "Fred" H. Whipple (1858-1937) was born in Malone, New York, and died in Norwalk, California. He moved to Pueblo, Colorado, sometime before 1880, where he worked as a farm laborer. In 1884 he married Mary B. Whipple (b. Blair) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and they subsequently moved to Canon City, Colorado. There Whipple went into business as a stationery and book dealer. He was also known as an expert fisherman. In 1886 Chain, Hardy & Co., a bookseller in Denver, Colorado, wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to order a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to be sent to Whipple.
