John S. Weller (c. 1830-1894) was born in Brighton, England, and died in
Chicago, Illinois. His father, Reverend Henry Weller, published a semi-monthly journal
devoted to the inner life of The New Church (Swedenborgian) in La Porte, Indiana, titled
The Crisis, which changed its name to
The
New Church Independent and moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1865. John was editor
of the paper for almost 50 years until his death.
