Salem E. Weld (1841-1925) was born Elgin, Illinois, and died in
Merrillan, Wisconsin. In 1866, he graduated from the Eclectic Medical Institute (EMI) in
Cincinnati, Ohio, and practiced medicine in Elgin for a few years. He then partnered
with his cousin, Russel Weld, in an Elgin drug store. He later sold his share and
partnered with H. W. Phillips in real estate and insurance in the firm Weld &
Phillips. Although he expressed an interest in Christian Science, there is no record of
him studying with Mary Baker Eddy or uniting with the Church of Christ
(Scientist).
