John H. Veazey (c. 1853-1888) was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, and died in Portsmouth, Virginia. He emigrated to Bangor, Maine, in 1879 and became a naturalized citizen in 1885. Veazey worked as an Episcopal minister, although he would eventually quit the ministry due to ill health. He married Alice M. Veazey (b. Buck). Veazey became interested in Christian Science after his sister was healed by Josephine Tyter, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. He became a student of Mary Baker Eddy's himself, completing the Primary class in August 1886. He became a member of the Christian Scientist Association in October 1887. In May 1888, the Veazeys moved from New Jersey to Norfolk, Virginia, to open a photography gallery, and in hopes of improving John's health; however, Veazey passed on prior to opening the business.
