Evander R. Vaughn (1819-1900) was born in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, and died in Fremont, Nebraska. He was the older brother of Orrilla W. Day, who was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's and a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science in Chicago, Illinois. Vaughn married Jessie E. Vaughn (b. Hinman) in Pennsylvania in 1857. In the early 1880s they moved first to North Platte, Nebraska, and then to Fremont, Nebraska, where Vaughn and his brother-in-law established Vaughn & Hinman, a furniture and undertaking business. Vaughn was a member of the Presbyterian church and of the Fremont Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
