Mary E. Tuite (b. Horan) (1858-1940) was born and died in Rockford, Illinois. She began her career as a dressmaker. In 1898 she married Christopher J. Tuite, a railroad fireman and engineer, in Chicago, Illinois, where they resided until sometime prior to 1910. They then moved back to Rockford where together they owned and operated a grocery and candy store. In 1886 Tuite wrote to Mary Baker Eddy saying she had become interested in Christian Science after her sister's successful treatment by Elizabeth Webster, one of Eddy's students in Chicago, and inquiring about terms for selling Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
