Eliza Alvord Townsend (1829-1909) was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and died in Wisconsin. She became interested in Christian Science in 1884 after reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures while visiting Chicago. Later she became a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Washington, D.C., and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 4, 1898.
