Bessie (b. Elizabeth) A. Tolman (b. Roberts) (1830-1926) was born in Rollinsford, New Hampshire, and died in Chicago, Illinois. In 1860, in Boston, Massachusetts, she married Samuel A. Tolman, a wholesaler who went into business in Chicago in 1875 as Tolman & Walker wholesale grocers. In 1886, Tolman wrote to Mary Baker Eddy that she had taken the Primary class with a former pupil of Eddy's and wanted to take the Normal Class with Eddy, although records do not indicate that she subsequently did so.
