Waldo Thompson (1813-1892) was born in Woburn, Massachusetts, and died in
Lynn, Massachusetts. In the late 1830s, he worked in a shoe factory in Lynn. In 1843, he
opened a country store in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He also served as postmaster in
Swampscott for fifteen years, from 1846-1861. At the same time he was running the store,
he founded his real estate business, Waldo Thompson & Son, buying and selling homes
in Lynn and Swampscott.
