Abigail Dyer Thompson (1874-1957) was born and died in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. She first met Mary Baker Eddy in 1886, at about age 12, during the time her
mother, Emma A. Thompson, was taking Eddy's Primary class at the Massachusetts
Metaphysical College, and she recounted being healed by Eddy on two separate occasions
in 1887. She joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on
July 6, 1895, and was listed as a practitioner in
The Christian Science
Journal from 1897 until her passing. Thompson was a teacher of Christian
Science and became a member of the General Association of Teachers in 1903. She was a
member of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Minneapolis, which she and her mother
helped found at Eddy's request in 1897, and together she and her mother also took Eddy's
Normal course in November 1898. They were both invited to visit Eddy at her various
homes many times over many years. Thompson very frequently contributed articles to both
The Christian Science Journal and the
Christian Science Sentinel. In 1942 she gave an address consisting of her
reminiscences of Eddy at the annual meeting of The Mother Church.
