Henry S. Tafft (1834-1909) was born in Charlton, Massachusetts, and died in Providence, Rhode Island. He served in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry in 1861 and by 1864, resigned as a Captain in the Signal Corps. Col. Henry S. Tafft worked as a granite dealer, metaphysician, and mental healer. He was president of the Rhode Island Metaphysical Association and vice president of the International Metaphysical League. He wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1885, asking if there was anyone in Providence qualified to give Christian Science treatment.
