Abishai Stoddard (1811-1893) was born and died in Westminster, Vermont.
He was a trained lawyer and was admitted to the bar in 1845. He also represented the
towns of Grafton (1844-1846) and Townshend (1859-1860) in the Vermont House of
Representatives. In 1849, he was elected judge of probate for the district of
Westminster, Vermont, a position he held continuously for 37 years until 1886, when he
retired.
