P01655AJohn H. Stewart (1862-1904) was born and died in Ontario, Canada. He
worked as a train conductor and married Isabella Macmillan in Chicago, Illinois, in
1885. The Stewarts moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1888, to practice Christian Science.
Stewart joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on
December 31, 1892. Like his wife and sister-in-law, Annie M. Knott, Stewart was a
student of Mary Baker Eddy's. He completed the Normal class on November 20, 1898. In
addition to practicing healing in Toronto, the Stewarts established the Toronto
Christian Science Institute for training practitioners. Stewart was a member of the
National Christian Scientist Association and president of the Students' Christian
Scientist Association No. 37, Toronto, Ontario. He was listed in the directory of
The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science practitioner
from 1902 until his death.
