Isabella M. Stewart (1859-1912) was born in Stewarton, Scotland, and died in Boston, Massachusetts. Her family emigrated to Canada in 1862. She married John H. Stewart, a train conductor, in Chicago, Illinois, in 1885. That same year, Stewart became interested in Christian Science from her sister, Annie M. Knott, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. She then studied with Mary M. W. Adams and Elizabeth Webster in Chicago in 1887. Along with her husband, Stewart became a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, completing the Normal class on May 21, 1888. The Stewarts moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1888, to practice Christian Science. In addition to practicing healing in Toronto, they established the Toronto Christian Science Institute for training practitioners. In 1889, a Christian Science congregation was organized in Toronto, and Stewart became its pastor in 1892. She joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 5, 1892. Stewart was a member of the Christian Scientist Association, as well as the National Christian Scientist Association. Widowed in 1904, Stewart moved to Boston with her son at the request of the Board of Directors of The Mother Church in 1906, and carried on teaching and practicing there. In 1909, she returned to Toronto and organized a new congregation, which she joined in October 1910. Her death occurred during a visit to her sister, Annie, in Boston. Stewart was listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science practitioner from 1904 until her death.
