W. D. St. Clair (c.1834-1899) was born in Ireland and died in Chicago,
Illinois. He emigrated to the United States in 1862 and embarked on a successful and
profitable career as an advertising solicitor. His career began at the
Chicago Evening Journal and he later secured a contract as advertising
solicitor for the
Chicago Times, a position he held until 1887.
After leaving the
Times, he retired to Happy Woods near
Hammond, Louisiana.
