Orinda T. Squiers (b. Kearney) (1826-1918) was born in Kent, New
Brunswick, Canada, and died in Long Beach, California. She married Thomas P. Squiers, a
farmer, in Kent in 1846, and they had eight children. After Squiers's husband died in
1861, she emigrated to the United States where she lived with various of her children
over the rest of her lifetime in Bryan, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; South Philipsburg,
Montana; and finally, by the early 1900s, in Long Beach. She was a lifelong member of
the Baptist church. Squires's oldest daughter was Havilah A. Heathwood (b. Squiers) who
took classes from Huldah P. Read and Arthur T. Buswell. Read and Buswell were both
students of Mary Baker Eddy's. Heathwood subsequently taught, wrote, and lectured widely
about her own interpretation of Christian Science.
