Orinda Squiers

Orinda T. Squiers (b. Kearney) (1826-1918) was born in Kent, New Brunswick, Canada, and died in Long Beach, California. She married Thomas P. Squiers, a farmer, in Kent in 1846, and they had eight children. After Squiers's husband died in 1861, she emigrated to the United States where she lived with various of her children over the rest of her lifetime in Bryan, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; South Philipsburg, Montana; and finally, by the early 1900s, in Long Beach. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist church. Squires's oldest daughter was Havilah A. Heathwood (b. Squiers) who took classes from Huldah P. Read and Arthur T. Buswell. Read and Buswell were both students of Mary Baker Eddy's. Heathwood subsequently taught, wrote, and lectured widely about her own interpretation of Christian Science.
