Elvira W. Spaulding (1838-1917) was born in Vermont and died in Columbus,
Ohio. She married Melville C. Spaulding in 1866. She was a student of Bradford
Sherman's, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. In 1885, Bradford Sherman proposed Mr. and
Mrs. Spaulding for membership in the Chicago branch of the Christian Scientist
Association. Spaulding was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, completing the Normal class
in October 1886. In 1887, she was invited by Eddy to become a member of the National
Christian Scientist Association. Spaulding joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist,
in Boston, Massachusetts, in September 1893, and in 1896, served as Second Reader of
First Church of Christ, Scientist, Columbus, Ohio. She worked as a teacher at the
Columbus, Ohio, Institute of Christian Science. Spaulding was a practitioner listed in
the directory of
The Christian Science Journal from 1902 until
her death.
