Mary E. Southworth (1846-1932) was born in Lockport, New York, and died
in an unknown location. She attended Lockport Union School in the early 1860s and
remained in Lockport until 1900, when she moved to Newark, New Jersey. She relocated to
Linden, New Jersey, in 1925. Southworth first studied Christian Science with Annie V. C.
Leavitt in 1886 and then took the Normal course from Mary Baker Eddy in October 1887.
She became a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts,
on January 6, 1894. She was listed as a practitioner in
The Christian
Science Journal in Lockport from 1895 through 1899; in Newark from 1900
through 1924; and in Linden from 1925 through 1927. Southworth was also a member of both
the National Christian Scientist Association and the General Association of
Teachers.
