William D. Smith (1853-1926) was born in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and
died in Spokane, Washington. He worked as a druggist. In 1886, his mother, Amanda M.
Smith, wrote to Mary Baker Eddy, asking Eddy to recommend a Christian Science
practitioner to treat his sister, Julia S. Cook. There is no record of Smith studying
with Eddy or joining The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts.
