R00058 Robert Pearsall Smith (1827-1898) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
and died in London, England. He was a businessman and leader of the Holiness movement.
Smith's book,
Holiness Through Faith (1870), was one of the
Holiness movement's most influential works. His daughter, art historian Mary Whitall
Smith, became interested in Christian Science and met with Mary Baker Eddy to discuss
enrolling at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College.
