Frederick B. Smith
Frederick B. Smith (1839-1919) was born in Hallowell, Maine, and died in
Chicago, Illinois. He was a junior partner in the firm Jansen, McClurg & Co. (later
A. C. McClurg & Co.), a Chicago-based publisher and bookseller. In the late 1880s,
A. C. McClurg & Co. acted as a wholesaler of Mary Baker Eddy's book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, distributing copies
to booksellers in Boston, New York, and Chicago.
